We all know handcrafted items are AWESOME! Here’s a couple tips on care to keep them looking their best for years to come.
While the base materials the item is based on (yarn, fabric, etc.) have their own care instructions, I highly recommend following the below instructions for handcrafted wearables.
First, hand washing the items is great. If you have the time and inclination, have at it. Fill a sink with lukewarm water, add some gentle detergent, add the item, swish it around a bit, and drain the sink. Rinse, rinse, rinse until all suds are gone. Reshape as needed, and air dry.
For those that don’t have the inclination (I’m one of them), items I send out are both machine washable and dryable (huzzah!).
- Take your item and put it into a pillowcase. Knot the pillowcase (or tie it with string, twine, yarn, etc) to ensure it stays closed during the wash. Tie it as close as possible to the item, making sure that the item isn’t caught in the knot.
- Start a wash cycle per your machine’s instructions. Cold water, gentle cycle is recommended. I use Mrs. Meyer’s Honeysuckle Laundry Detergent myself, but I hear Mrs. Meyer’s Lavender Laundry Detergent works great for the littles.
- Once the wash cycle completes, take the item, still in the pillow case, and toss it in the dryer with a few clean towels. Dry on as gentle of a cycle as you have (gentle tumble, low heat, etc.).
- When dry cycle is complete, remove from dryer, take out of pillow case, and enjoy!
